Our Story

Our journey began when my daughter, ‘Ladybug’, transitioned to solids. We embarked on our Baby Led Weaning journey, and very quickly I realised that I needed something that would protect her clothes from food stains and avoid outfit changes after every meal. I started to look for a long sleeve bib smock that would achieve the coverage needed, but could not find anything. So out of necessity I designed and handmade my first feeding smock. These smocks were used for the next 2 years of our daughters meal time routine, making countless family meals stress free.

With the arrival of ‘Fred’ in 2018, one of my girlfriends from a mother’s group asked if I would make her some smocks, our small business Fred & the Ladybug started. Since the inception of the smock and creation of Fred & the Ladybug we have focused on providing gorgeous on trend designs and the customisation of the smock to your style preferences, but most importantly developing a waterproof fabric solution with all the functionality, while soft and comfortable just like clothes, with our objective to ‘make meal times easier’.

This is a journey of discovery and learning. From the basics of sewing from school textile classes and my mum, to finding a supply solution to waterproof fabric, launching websites, Facebook and Instagram accounts we are developing and growing all in the effort towards sharing our coverall long sleeve smock and making meal times easier for your family. With my passion for food and cooking, I have also love to share our family meals and recipes. Each and every smock is lovingly hand crafted for you, made in Australia.
